S. B. White worked closely with Preston Construction and ETSU to install a solar duct array type passive heating system on the roof of the existing Center for Physical Activity (or CPA) on the campus of ETSU. This state of the art system of solar collectors, ductwork and fans is the first of its kind installed in Tennessee. These fans flow air through these solar wall type collectors that collect energy from the sun and transfer it to the air flowing through it. This preheated air is then pumped into the buildings existing fresh air intake system for ventilation air that does not have to be solely heated by steam from the campus central energy plant.
