Sullivan Central Boiler Replacement

S. B. White Company was the low bidder and given the contract to replace the aging coal fired boilers at Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, TN in June of 2010. It was an exciting project that involved removing the old boilers and associated pumps, piping, and flues in the existing boiler room as well as the construction of a new metal building to house the new boilers, pumps, etc behind the existing school. We installed three (3) new Burnham model 4FPW-563A 3 pass firebox type horizontal firetube boilers with Webster JB-2 propane burners in this new building and extended the 8″ steel heating water supply and return piping underground through the parking lot connecting to the existing piping in the old boiler room in the basement of the school. We got kind of a late start on a project of this nature and it was an interesting challenge to get all of the new system installed and operational by the time the school needed heat that fall. The design team for this project included Holston Engineering, Inc. as the engineer with Steven K. Hutton and Associates , P.C. and Spoden & Wilson Consulting Engineers as the consultants.
